The Hunter's Chronicles
A Talk on Other Paranormal Creature
Monkey Boy AJ
At the root of the word “paranormal,” is the word “normal.” Thus before we can talk on the subject of the paranormal, normal must be defined. Normal, according to the online Merriam-Webster dictionary, is of, relating to, or characterized by average intelligence or development. Also one can define normal as that which is socially accepted and expected given a certain set of parameters; also what a societal group defines as right and wrong. However, because these definitions change based on the group being observed, the word normal has no set, standard, and worldly accepted definition. Paranormal is defined by Merriam-Webster, as that which is scientifically unexplainable.
There are several usages of paranormal and what it involves when studying subjects thereof. One can include the occult, ghosts, demons, and other topics when speaking about the paranormal. As seeing we have discussed some of the topics of the paranormal, we shall stick to that which has yet to be touched on; ghosts, demons, and other creatures of the night.
Ghosts have been around since antiquity. It can be argued that the angles of the Bible were ghosts. Shakespeare makes references to ghosts in Hamlet. Ghosts are fact of culture, they are portrayed in literature and social mediums and stand as a way for the living to connect with the dead. Ghost can be nothing more than an unexplained noise late at night, to an apparition that can be seen and documented. Ghost can be voices in our head, to voices that member of a family hear at night wandering through their house. Most ghosts are non violent and mischievous. Restless spirits that have been plucked from the world before their time constitute a large number of ghostly haunting and are simply trying to find their way to the afterlife. Others are trouble makers that may need to be sent on their way to the other side. Every ghost is a different story and thusly must be dealt with on an individual basis.
Demons are a rare occurrence in the world around us. Most demons that are encountered are merely the sin and guilt that lives within a person. Traditionally most paranormal creatures are groups all under the heading of demons; however, demon is better defined as a creature that has come straight from the realm of Hell. Demons, in my experience, act mostly like a ghost, haunting a person or family until vanquished. Blessing a house and/or performing exorcisms are the most widely used means of ridding one’s self from a demon. Most demons have no other intent than to make someone’s life a living hell. Many times they make deals for power and money with those that are greedy and when said person cannot hold their end of the bargain, the demon will steal their soul or next of kin as payment. Demons are hard to identify and harder to kill. Should a demon be identified, it is best to avoid the creature at all costs and alert your local priest of the intruder.
Witches and wizards also fall under the heading of paranormal. The classical witch and wizard used magic and chants to summon spirits and unexplainable forces to accomplish their goals. Modern witches, use spiritual energies and natural power to accomplish their goals. The modern witch is more connected with nature than they are with voodoo magic. Modern wizards are now nothing more than a magician, tricking us into seeing what he wants us to see through slight-of-hand and smoke and mirrors.
The last subject of the paranormal realm is that of cryptids. Cryptids like Bigfoot, Loch Ness, or the chupacabra are believed by many to exist in part or whole, but have yet to be discovered by modern science. These creatures are not of the normalcy of modern accepted science and thus paranormal.
