Tales of the Drunken Monkey

Origin of a Hero Part 2

Monkey Boy AJ

Our story begins in a place far from the watchful eye of Drunken Monkey.  The place is Big Apple, the city where the name Oz the Kung Fu Cat first came to be known and feared.  Oz the Kung Fu Cat, once an ordinary Tabby, will soon become one of the greatest heroes grace the streets of Big Apple.

In a suburban area of Big Apple, a dojo master brings his class to an end. As he does so two men in suits enter the dojo.  These men have not come under welcoming circumstances.

“That will be all for today my students.  Gather your things, your parents will be here soon.”

The master bows to his students and dismisses them.  He then greets the men awaiting him.

“Hello Mr. Onda, I am Kenshin and this is my associate Sano, we represent the Dragon Clan, we are here to deliver a proposition from our leader Miyamoto Tanjiro.  Mr. Miyamoto wishes to purchase your dojo and your services.  He wishes to use it as a midway between the downtown and dockside headquarters.”

“What price?”

“$200,000 for the dojo; more than the dojo is worth to anyone else.  And your salary is to be negotiated.”

“Why does Mr. Miyamoto want my dojo?”

“To use it as a headquarters and to train new recruits.”

“I see.”

“Yes well we are only here to deliver the message and inform you that we will return in three days to receive your answer.  So, until then, Mr. Onda, good day.”

The two men leave the dojo and the master leaves to his attached apartment, above the dojo.  As he enters he is greeted by his cat, the only family that he has.  Onda Toshiro came to Country from Japan with his parents when he was still a baby.  His father worked in West Coast City, and was transferred to Big Apple when Toshiro was eight.  At the age of nine he was left orphaned.  Now at the age of 83, most of his family in Japan has passed on.  Oz, his cat, is the only family that he has left.

“Well, my dear Oz, it looks as though we are going to have trouble.”  Toshiro bends over and picks up his cat to pet him.  “The Dragon Clan of the Yakuza wants to buy me out.  But don’t worry I won’t let them.  Not without a fight.”

Unfortunately nothing short of a battle will stop the Dragon Clan Yakuza.

Three days have now passed, and as expected, the men from the Yakuza have returned.  They wait for Master Onda to finish his class and then approach him for an answer.  The men inform Onda that the deal has been adjusted in his favor.  Mr. Miyamoto is now offering $220,000 and an annual salary of $75,000 to teach the new recruits.

“As great as this all sounds, I’m afraid that I must decline your boss’s request.  I have lived here for over 50 years and operated this dojo under a strict discipline; it would be against my honor to accept your boss’s offer.”

“I’m sorry to hear that Mr. Onda.  We will inform our boss of your wishes.”

After the men leave, Master Onda retires to his shrine to meditate and ask his ancestor to give him the strength needed to repel the Dragon Clan Yakuza.

“He said no.”

“That’s what I expected he would say.  Master Onda Toshiro has been training students in the martial arts for over 50 years at his dojo.  Send in two of our newbies to test his strength, and be sure that there are witnesses, and that it is known that it is not wise to deny the Dragon Clan Yakuza.”

Kenshin leaves to prepare his men for their task.  He orders them to go to the Onda Dojo during the evening classes and knock Mr. Onda around a little.  As they leave the men are instructed to inform the students of what will become of one who refuses the Dragon Clan.

“No, no, son, like this.”  Master Onda helps to correct an improper technique of a student as two large men in suits enter the dojo.  The men walk through some of the students to the front where Master Onda is with the student.  Both men pull out a pair of police batons and attack.

“Run kids.”

“Yes run from the Dragon Clan in fear of your lives.  If you fail to follow the wishes of the Dragon Clan you will face our whip.”

“You do realize that you have no chance of beating me, I may be 83, but I’m physically  in my forties.”

“Oh just shut it old man.  Let’s teach this old fart a lesson Shinbo.”

The men attack Master Onda.  The first attacker goes straight for a head blow.  Onda blocks the man’s arm, grabs it, and throws him across the dojo.  The second man swings to deliver a blow to Onda’s collar bones.  Onda jumps slightly forward landing on his hands and pushes off to use his heels to jab into the second man’s chest, sending him flying backward.  The men regain their stance and stand shocked at the ability of their opponent.

“You boys should leave before I really hurt you.”

The men ignore the warning and attack again.  They try to double team Onda by taking a stance on either side of him.  He dodges their attacks at the very last second and the men run into each other.  They quickly turn and try again.  Onda goes on the offensive and uses a series of throws that send the men across the dojo landing by the door.   They get to their feet and run out of the dojo.  Onda retires to his apartment, and to his shrine to meditate.  Oz comes into the room and sets besides Onda and goes to sleep.

“What where we supposed to do boss, he was definitely too strong for the two of us.”

“Yea we tried just about everything.”

“You two suck, can’t believe you’re even Yakuza, let alone in the Dragon Clan.”

“We’re sorry Sir Kenshin.”

The two men are dismissed and Kenshin informs Miyamoto of the failure.

“Well it would seem that we have misjudged Master Onda, have a few of the men rattle one of the students a bit.  That should get our point across to Master Onda.”

Kenshin leaves to make the preparations.  He finds the two men that he sent to attack Master Onda and gives them a second chance with the task of beating on one of the students.

“Good evening, does a Pete Kapoor live here?”

“Yes, he’s my son, can I help you gentlemen?”
