Now fully bored, Andrew fishes for hope, “Dammit Iago, we’ve been sitting here for two hours, I’m bored out of my mind.”

“Sorry man, nothing’s biting tonight.”

“There has to be something better to do than just sit here.   I mean I’m ready to get this whole job done so I can get back home to my girls.”

Brightening up, “Ya know that gives me an idea.” Iago starts the car and begins to head for downtown.  “We’ll go see Louisa; maybe she’s heard something about all this.  Plus I’ve not talked to her in weeks; it’ll be good to check in.”

Andrew perking at some juicy gossip, “Who?”

Laughing a bit, Iago fills Andrew in on the details, “Madam Guerra: when you first meet her in person. Call her anything else without her telling you and I take no responsibility for the outcome; fair warning.”

Straight puzzled by Iago’s tone, “I thought brothels were illegal?”

“They are.  Louisa runs a girls dorm; just so happens that they’re all prostitutes.”

Concerned Andrew inquires, “And why do you know her by first name?”

Iago answers, “”Cause we’re just cool like that.  Plus if it wasn’t for her, most of the girls she cares for would be on the streets.”

Iago parks his cruiser in front of the dorm, and he and Andrew make their way to the door.  As Iago reaches for the handle, two men exit the establishment.   They are both petrified as they realize that they are staring at an officer.  But, Iago, simply bids them a good night, and motions Andrew inside.

One of the girls recognizes Iago, and asks him to wait, and rushes off to find Madam Guerra.  Andrew and Iago, take a lean against a wall away from the entryway as to not be in the way of anyone coming or going.  After about ten minutes the girl returns with Madam Guerra in tow.  Andrew and Iago turn to greet her.

Wearing a vibrant green, form fitting, dress with a ruffled chest, and side slit, Madam Guerra is more than Andrew expected.  Giving Andrew a once over with lush hazel eyes, from a pampered complexion, accented with curls of scarlet red hair, “Hey there handsome.”

Offering a hand shake, “Hello, my name is Andrew Irons.”

Shaking his hand with a wide smile on her face, “I’ll guess that since you’re with Iago, you’re here on business.”

With an apologetic look, “Sorry Madam, I am.  I’m also very committed to my girls back home.”

With a raised eyebrow, Madam Guerra inquires, “Girls?”

Laughing a bit at his ambiguity, “Yes, my girlfriend and her daughters.”

With a happy smile of approval, Madam Guerra praises, “Good to hear that.” Turning to Iago, “What can I do for you?”

“Well, as I’m sure you’ve heard there have been several attacks by what everyone’s calling vampires.  I was hoping that you may have some sort of lead on the subject.”

Disappointed, Madam Guerra, gives Iago the news, “Sorry, boys I got nothing for you.  I’ve been keeping in contact with the girls as much as I can on all that.  Making sure they watch out and report any suspicious characters to the police.  Luckily nothing’s happened in our little world.”

At the same moment that Madam Guerra finishes her sentence, a scream of terror is heard from the second floor of the dorm.  Andrew and Iago take flight to find out what’s happened and suggest that Madam Guerra stay where she is unless needed.  Iago is first to the room.  The door is locked so he rams it open with his shoulder.  Inside he finds two vampires making light work of one of the girls, one is clamped to her neck, while the other helps hold her down waiting her turn.  The girl on the bed is naked as are the two that stand over her; three some gone wrong.  Iago rusher to the girl’s side while Andrew gives back up.  Andrew enters the room and is greeted with the full brunt force of a charge from the female.  The other male vampire, back hands Iago as he attempts to pull him from his snack.  Iago stumbles back a few steps but gains his footing to take a fighting stance in time enough to block and counter a straight punch from the vampire.  Iago makes a move to deliver a right hook to the vampire, but is blocked and takes a left jab in the jaw.  Iago throws a left punch which the vampire open hand grabs.  The vampire twists Iago’s arm and spins himself around to flat foot kick Iago in the back; this attack completely dislocates Iago’s arm, and everyone near hears about it as Iago shouts in pain.  The vampire releases Iago from his hold, and lines up in front of him.  Before Iago can react the vampire tackles him through the window of the room, “Let’s take this shit outside.”

Andrew can do nothing, pinned against the wall.  He delivers a few punches to his attacker’s rib cage, but is lifted in the air, and tossed over head onto the floor.  He gets to his feet as quickly as he can, and barely misses a nasty left hook from the vampire.  He uses the opening to jab her in jaw, getting her to take a full step back, and giving him the needed time to gain his footing and a fighting stance. “Let’s go bitch.”   Andrew darts for the vampire and delivers a solid one-two punch to the face.  Unfortunately, this barely fazes the girl, as she pushes him back with both hands and uses the distance to right kick Andrew in the chest, sending him off his feet to the floor.  The vampire jumps on top of him, using her legs and hands to pin him.

With a huge smirk of enjoyment on her face, “Sorry baby, did that hurt? It looked like it hurt.”

Andrew manages to get one leg free of her hold and uses it to push her off of him.  He gets to his feet and tackles her to the floor.  “Now I’m on top, whore!”  This gives him just the opening he need to pull his knife from its vertical sheath on the back of his belt, and jam it into her heart.  As she screams in pain, he gets up, pulls the Redeemer, and fires one round straight into her skull. Done.  He then checks the victim’s life signs; finding her still alive he motions for the girls in the doorway to help her out as he rushes down to assist Iago.

The sounds of Iago hitting the sidewalk can clearly be heard through the door, as well as the sound of his leg breaking under the pressure.  Madam Guerra, rushes through the door, and sees the vampire getting ready for a kill stomp to Iago’s head. “YOU BASTARD!”  She rushes him.  The male vampire side steps her punch with ease, but fails to see that it was a ruse and she round house kicks him to the pavement.  As he jumps to his feet, he is greeted by the Madam holding her .380 Taurus pistol.  Before he can react, she unload all six rounds into him, luckily two rounds find their rightful home in his heart and head.  Done 2.0.  Madam Guerra rushes to Iago.  She checks to make sure he is still alive.  Andrew comes through the doors, and she orders him to call for an ambulance.

“You’re one of the luckiest mother fuckers I’ve ever had the grace to stand with.”

Comfortably slouched in his hospital bed, Iago, chuckles, “Thanks, though I don’t feel very lucky at all.”

Laughing and going for the open joke, “Yea, you look like shit.”

“I’ll be fine…I think.”

“Doctors said you will, just gonna be awhile since you snapped your femur in two.  Lots of therapy and exercise with hot nurses coming your way I guess.  Anyway I gotta get going; Ester and I are heading out on a patrol.”

“Alright man, you guys be careful.”

Putting his sword into the back of the cruiser, Andrew catches Ester’s questioning glare.  As he gets in the car, “You wouldn’t believe me if I told you.”

Raising an eye brow, “I’m a cop, try me.”

“Well, I got it from the Dark Prince himself, as far as I can tell.  It was a gift to help me slay a demon.  ‘Course as with any ‘gift’ from that bastard, it came with a certain cost; ex number of years of service doing whatever shit job he can come up with.  I mean he does pay me, but only enough to make it fair.  Asshole.”

“Interesting. So do you take that on every outing?”

Laughing, “Only when told, or if I think I’ll need it; and something tells me I’ll need it tonight.  Plus the mission parameters state that Arlene Rodriguez is to be beheaded by the blade of that sword and her head delivered.  I have this feeling that we’ll see her tonight.”

With a frank tone Ester replies, “Well that’s a tad graphic.”

“It’s an extra $2000, so it’s whatever.”

Ester and Andrew take to the streets in search of the remaining vampires.  They head downtown and scout out the bars.  Then make their way past the night clubs and onward to the red light areas of town.  After getting no leads or signs they take their last pass by the warehouses along the river.
